Larbert v Grangemouth - A Tale of Two Halves

On Monday night the Larbert High under 13’s were playing against Grangemouth High School which proved to be a tough game. In the end Larbert came out on top with a 4-3 victory, giving them their second win of the season.

Evan Collumbine bags his third penalty of the season

The game started brightly with Larbert on the front foot with a good chance created from Lewis Dawson up to Michael Baba-Yemi but the Grangemouth keeper pulled off a great save. It wasn’t long before Larbert created another chance with Rhys Dow driving at goal and the Grangemouth keeper again denying Larbert. Larbert got their first goal when Ryan Dewar crossed the ball in and Evan Collumbine heading the ball into the back of the net. Larbert’s second goal came from a Cameron Stein free kick which led to Rhys Dow’s tap in past the keeper.

At half time Larbert were 2-0 up playing and some great football. Grangemouth on the other hand hadn’t really created any big chances. Just after the break Ryan Dewar gave Larbert their third, smashing it past the goalkeeper from the edge of the box.

And then the comeback was on.

The Grangemouth striker drove through the defence and produced a neat finish past Evan Taylor giving Grangemouth their first goal of the game. It wasn’t long before Grangemouth found the net again winning the ball in midfield and finishing with a similar goal to the first, 3-2 Larbert.

Larbert were 3-2 up but it seemed their heads were down, this half had proved to be Grangemouth’s. Grangemouth were starting to create more and more chances including scoring an offside goal.  Soon Grangemouth had equalised with a good ball over the top of the defence, into the striker who burst the net. 25 minutes into the second half and the score was all even at 3-3.

Later in the match Larbert were starting to change things around with a few subs.  Soon they were soon 4-3 up. Evan Collumbine was fouled in the box, it was a dubious penalty. Evan stood up to take it himself and neatly slotted it into the bottom left hand corner.

It was full time and Larbert had won 4-3 which was a good first half performance but the second half wasn’t the best.  In the end Larbert earned their second win in a row and played some nice football.

We’ve given the MOTM performance to Ryan Dewar.
