Steven Fray Tells Us Why He Loves Rugby and Daniel Sturridge's Dance Moves

My name is Steven Fray and I have chosen sports journalism as I wanted to do something different from just sports, but still stay with the sports theme.

I have been playing rugby for six years now and I have always been interested in the sport. I now play for LHS School of Rugby and I have been really enjoying it so far. I have won multiple trophies and events though my years of rugby which I am really proud of winning, but I’m still determined to learn more.

In the future I would love to be a professional rugby player but of course I know I have to work very hard to make it within the sport.

My biggest sporting inspiration would have to be my old maths teacher, Dr Cook, who used to help out in rugby training at my last school. Dr Cook really got me into playing rugby and helped me realise a passion for rugby and a passion for sport.

I am really looking forward to the Rugby world cup 2015 with England as hosts.
The Rugby World Cup which started last Saturday and has already thrown up some memorable results

The most likely team to win the World Cup is New Zealand as they are currently ranked number one in the world at the moment just ahead of South Africa who are second and ahead of Ireland who are ranked third in the world. I will be supporting England at the World Cup as they are my favourite International rugby team just above Scotland – my dad is English.
I am also very passionate about football, my favourite team is Liverpool F.C.  My favourite Liverpool player is Daniel Sturridge he is a top goal scorer and a brilliant player, his celebration dance has to be the best celebration in the Premier League.

Steven appreciates Daniel Sturridge's moves
I think Coutinho could be Liverpool’s next big star of the season and the player of the season in the Premier League. I think Liverpool’s new signings including Firmino and Benteke will improve the team and hopefully score goals for the club, I also think Milner will be a great improvement to the club and will be a great leader.

I went to a Liverpool game when last year when Liverpool were playing against Everton in the Premier league on Tuesday the 28th of January 2014, the score was 4-0 to Liverpool it was amazing! Gerrard managed to score and then Sturridge scored twice in the first half. In the second half Suarez scored again to seal the win for Liverpool.

I'm looking forward to writing about the rugby and football events happening in the upcoming year.

Erin Kerr - Our Dance Specialist

Hello, my name is Erin Kerr I'm in S3 and I am really looking forward to starting the Sports Journalism Elective.

Erin Kerr is our Dance Specialist and a member of the LHS School of Dance

The reason I chose to take Sports Journalism out of many different electives was because I really enjoy both English and Sports and wanted to incorporate the two subjects into one.

The sport I enjoy most is by far Dance. I have been dancing for 4 years and have leant loads of new skills. I have improved massively and it’s a big part of my life now.
I dance for Larbert High’s School of Dance and NRG Performers. I was delighted to have been selected to dance within the School of Dance in 2013. In School of Dance we cover most aspects of dance such as; Ballet, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Contemporary, Lyrical and many more. In School of Dance we are mainly focusing on both National 4 and National 5 Dance levels.

Erin, and the school of dance, dancing at the Larbert High School Showcase

I dance on Thursdays at NRG Performers at their new studios in Camelon, Falkirk. There I dance for 45 minutes. I do a mixture between; Jazz, Fusion and Hip-Hop. I am currently looking into joining Ballet there too as I thoroughly enjoy that type of Dance and want to do even more extra-curricular.
In May at the start of the year I went to London with the School of Dance. Every day we danced at Pineapple Studios where we completed many workshops covering different types of Dance such as Contemporary, Jazz, Lyrical and many more. I was so happy that I got the chance to dance with someone who was in the cast of Matilda, and later that evening I got the chance to see the show, it was amazing..!!

Despite the fact I love dance I also love other sports such as Football. I go with my Step-dad to many games. I’ve been to a lot of Rangers games and I always really enjoy the atmosphere.
I am looking forward to reporting on many dance shows and events for the Sports Journalism Elective throughout the year.

Andrew Gilchrist's Dream XI

My Name is Andrew Gilchrist and my favourite sports are football and rugby.  My favourite football players are Falkirk’s Craig Sibbald and Man United’s Wayne Rooney. My favourite rugby players are Nikko Matawalu and Stuart Hogg.
If I had to pick my favourite players from this year’s Premier League this is who I would pick. I have explained my decision for each player in each position.

No wonder Arsene's looking happy for once, that's some team Andrew's put together for him..!!

DAVID GE GEA: really good diving and makes incredible saves

CESAR AZPILLICUETA: Fast, good dribbling, good tackles and he has an ok shot for a left back

VINCENT KOMPANY: strong, good tackles, experienced, dominates in the box at headers

LAURENT KOSCIELNY: Strong, fast, good tackler, scores a lot for a defender

Nathaniel CLYNE: really fast, good dribbling, amazing skills has a very bright future in the Premier League especially after his transfer to Liverpool FC

EDEN HAZARD: really fast, outstanding skills, amazing free kicks, definitely the best left midfielder in the league

YAYA TOURE: Very strong, experienced, scores a lot, tracks back to defend and pushes forward to score

ANDER HERERRA: Fast, good volleys, young with a bright future at one of the biggest clubs in the world

ALIXIS SANCHEZ: Fast, strong, amazing longshots, good skills, very talented, powerful,

SERGIO AGUERO: Scores a lot of goals, fast, game changer, powerful, dominates, scares the defence and makes it hard for the goalkeeper

Wayne Rooney is my favourite player he scored an amazing overhead kick against Manchester City which was voted goal of the season for 2010.

And finally for my manager I chose Arsene Wenger because in my opinion he is the best manager in the league even though Arsenal haven’t won the league since 2004 he’s been at Arsenal for a long time so the fans clearly like him

Callum Grant Loves Cricket - Howzat...???

Hello, my name is Callum Grant. I chose the Sports Journalism Elective because I have a passion for sport, especially cricket and golf.
My favourite sports are cricket and golf; I also like rugby and table tennis. My passion is cricket and when I am older I would like to be a professional cricketer for Scotland and Yorkshire CCC (County Cricket Club).

My favourite cricketer is Joe Root. The best memory I have of him is when he scored 200 not out v Sri Lanka. He came on at a tricky time the score was 74-3 after 18.3 overs. He put on 47 with Ian bell to get the score to 120-4. He then batted with Moeen Ali and together they put on 209-5. He batted for 500 minutes and faced 298 balls hitting 13 fours. For the next day and a half Joe Root took apart the Sri Lankan bowling attack and finished 200 not out.

Joe Root, 'can you limbo under this..??'

Another great innings from Joe Root was the 134 he scored against Australia. England at that stage were 43-3, Joe Root walked out to the wicket with the full weight of England expectations on his shoulders. He was dropped on 0 by Brad Haddin (the Australian wicketkeeper). He joined Gary Ballance and put on 153 to take England to 196-4. Ben Stokes then came to the wicket and scored a valuable 52. The pair put on 84 and took the score to 280-6. Root was finally bowled out for an impressive 134 runs off of 166 balls. He batted for 247 minutes and won England the test match.

My next favourite cricketer is Ricky Ponting. My favourite memory of Ricky Ponting is from the 2005 Ashes series, he faced 274 balls and after 411 minutes of bowling attacks he scored 156 runs. His wicket was lost with 4 overs to go in the match, his innings saved a game England thought they had won comfortably and earned Australia the win.

The great Ricky Ponting who bowed out of Test Cricket against England this Summer

When it comes to golf my favourite player is definitely Rory McIlory. I like Rory’s style especially how he attacks the pins and greens and is always looking for a low score.

My favourite rugby player is stand off/full back Stuart Hogg. I love seeing Stuart Hogg running and beating defenders, making them look silly.
The sight of Stuart Hogg scares oppositions, no one likes looking silly do they?

One of my most vivid sporting memories is a game I played for the Stenhousemuir Under 11’s Cricket Club. I scored 39 runs with my partner and I took 1 wicket. I was captain for that season and as captain I only lost 1 game which was in the semi-final (we lost to Polock Cricket Club)

Another memorable sporting moment for me was when Andy Murray won Wimbledon in 2013. I was camping at the time and my cousin and I were sat in the car listening to Andy Murray winning Wimbledon on the radio. On that day Andy’s back and forehand cross-court was pristine and the fore-hand down the line was great.

I can’t wait to start writing about all my favourite sports and reporting on all the interesting sporting events LHS are involved in.
